About Me
I am a painter living in Los Angeles.
I was born in 1958 in Washington, D.C.
My family moved to England in 1959, where I went to school from 1962 until 1967. At the end of that year, we went to live on a 327-foot motor yacht and lived in various ports and at sea for the next eight years. Toward the end of 1975, we moved back to the United States, and in 1976, I attended the California Institute of the Arts.
After being informed that ‘art is dead’ ad nauseam, I discovered they CalArts had abandoned the traditional fine arts curriculum (how to actually use charcoal and paint—in other words, how to make art) and were instead, dolefully, indoctrinating us into postmodernism. So after just one semester, I bugged out to rejoin my parents, who now lived in La Quinta, California, to learn how to draw and paint with their help and support. (To obtain a description of what postmodernism is, click on ‘Postmodernism’ at left.)
In 1987, at the age of 28, I finally transitioned to full-time painting after a series of fits and starts. I relocated to Los Angeles, California, and started networking with fine arts circles in Southern California. The fine arts community (about as contentious and divisive a ‘community’ as one can find) in Southern California had also succumbed to the postmodern ideology and caught the ‘social justice' bug, among other maladies. In brief, I did not succeed in that milieu either, so once again I headed out on my own, fortunately with the support of many friends, to whom I am eternally grateful for their support.
My work was first exhibited in the late eighties, and in the nineties I began to work with mixed media and photographic interpretations; you’ll discover them under “ax31”.
Then in 2003 I got an etching press to make prints. These can be seen under "Intaglio".
Most recently I have returned to painting and started working on a new series. I hope to keep this site updated on my progress.
This site contains some examples of my work. Most of them are available for sale; the price list is to the left. If you see something you want to buy, note its title; it should be on that list.
If you visited this site because you have questions about Scientology, then you may visit another site that goes into it at arthurconwayhubbard.com
In any case, thank you for checking out this site. I hope you enjoy the work as much as I have enjoyed making it.
